Sad, very sad. Somwe of my happiest memories from childhood were made here. Grades 3 thru 5, 1958 to 1960
ReplyDeleteWe were there at the same time. I attended from 1957 to 1963. I lived right up the street at 14 Fairfax Street and then we moved to the other side, in Fairfax Villa, on Cortez Drive.
DeleteLarry Stoiaken,Fairfax High, class of 1969.
I went there in the mid 60's great memories and great teachers. Sad to see it go
ReplyDeleteso sad to see the youth of your life be torn down. As if memories being taken away. No place to show granchildren were you went to school.):
ReplyDeleteWent there 4th through 6th grade. Had a great 6th grade teacher, Alan R. Manor, was a great inspiration. Everyone has one teacher that influence them and Mr. Manor was mine.
ReplyDeleteI was there when i was In fourth grade ...I was just talking about this place today 9-12-16.... Wow so many great memories came down like that
DeleteSome places will live on forever in our minds. I attended westmore from 81-85 (kinder through 2nd). I especially remember my teacher Ellen Barrett.
ReplyDeletewent here in 3rd and 4th Grade ( in the 90s) Mr Cole was a great counselor. Mrs Drago I think I spelled her name right was a great teacher
ReplyDeleteI loved this school...attended K and 1st grade, 1974-76. Mrs. Barrett was my favorite teacher...1st grade if I remember. I visited the school in 2006 and it looked to be a private school at the time, as if the district had sold it? I now live in the Pacific NW. Goodbye Westmore...the Warriors!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it is gone. So many bad memories I've had while going through the grades never again anymore. I had to transfer out before the 6th grade. No one ever did anything to stop the bullying that was there even the princple didn't do anything at all about it even after we complained to him about the bullying in the early 90s
ReplyDeleteI'm 26 now I was there in the early 90s but don't remember a lot of bullying just another of juggling lol
DeleteGood riddance. Terrible teachers and lots of bullying in the late 60s/early70s. I was so glad when we moved.
DeleteOh, the dreaded Mrs. Barrett lol. I went there in the 80's and had Mrs. Croft, Mrs. Slusher, Mrs. Barrett, Mrs. Pierce and my favorite, Mrs. Rapson. It was a great school, sad to see it's gone.
ReplyDeleteI went there from late 70’s early 80’s. What happened to Mrs. Rapson?
DeleteDefinitely sad to see it go. Went from 3rd to 6th grade. Started out with Mrs. Seymour, then Mrs. Jones, and finally, Mr. Glofka in the 5th and 6th grades. I have fond memories of field day, the fun fair, the school picnic, the 5th/6th grade dance, and school projects. Westmore will live in my memory forever! <3
ReplyDeleteOl Mrs Seymonster. Lol
DeleteWas anyone here on the It's Elementary TV show that aired in November 1983? Probably folks born 1973 or so.
ReplyDeleteI was, my mame is Sujit Naik, I was in Mes Twedell's class. I got picked and went to it's Elementary in DC at WJLA
DeleteI was there 1970-1972
ReplyDeleteI went to Westmore from first to third grade in the early '60s. My favorite teacher was my first grade teacher who taught me about bees and wasps. How to confront them and not get stung.
ReplyDeleteI went to Westmore 1-6th. 1968 to 74 then to Robinson the first year it opened for 7th. Gosh I remember Seeing Jupiter one morning walking to school. I think in the 5th grade. People think I am crazy when I tell them that. We walked to school thru the woods, would never happen today.
ReplyDeleteMy sisters and I (Garman girls) attended there late 60s. We walked through the woods to get there, too. Great memories! Sorry to see it go.
ReplyDeleteWalked there from park rd. Late 70’s early 80’s
ReplyDelete1-6
Your name seems familiar. I was there between '67 and '74, K-6th. My entire family, all 5, attended the school. James Holmes
ReplyDeleteWent there Kindergarden to 6th grade (67-73). Used to walk to school from up on Charles Drive. The Villa School was only about 100 yards away through the woods, but it was in the county and we lived in the city limits. lots of great memories from there. Really hate to hear that it is gone.
ReplyDeleteOh Westmore School. If I only had known; I would have loved to throw one more rock through one more of your dirty windows prior to your demolition.
ReplyDeleteAttended K - 6th grade - 1964 - 1970 - Lived in Fairfax Villa. Attended brownies and girl scouts at the school and also was involved in the Westmore Baton and Drum Corp. I remember watching the landing on the moon in the cafeteria. Sorry to see that it has been torn down.
ReplyDeleteIt breaks my heart to think this school no longer exists. Some of my fondest memories are walking through the woods to get to school. I still remember my 3rd grade teacher, Ms Davis and my 4th, Mrs. McCrory. It was the best of times.
ReplyDeleteI went there for 1st thru the part of 4th. That was from '58 thru '61. We lived in a trailor park and had to walk thru the woods to get to school. In 2nd grade I was in a class that was half 1st graders and half 2nd graders.
ReplyDeleteI was at Westmore during those exact years, 1st-4th grades… lived on Maple St. in Ardmore… teachers were Ms. Batts, Mrs. McLaughlin, Mrs. Echols, and Mrs. Kreible… transferred to Green Acres for 5-6th grades… after high school, WT Woodson, class of 1970, lived at Waples Trailer Park from 1973-79…
DeleteWent here for only one year (2nd grade) in the early 1990s, during the Gulf War. I also had the infamous Ms. Barrett. "PARK IT OR I'LL SPARK IT!" "MISS (redacted), if you were in Driving Miss Daisy, you would have been driving Miss Daisy CRAZY!" Without a doubt the most colorful teacher or professor I would ever have in my life.
ReplyDeleteI moved on to Oak View as my family moved onward and upward and then went to W.T. Woodson, but this school always stuck out in my mind as a halcyon moment in time. After going around the world, I'm back in Nova, but still shocked to see this part of my childhood gone. RIP Westmore.
I attended Westmore for 2nd grade,Mrs. Berry ('57-58), 3rd grade, Mrs.Scammahorn ('58-59), and Mrs.McCrory ('59-60) for 4th grade. We lived in Warren Woods. As a military "brat" we moved often and left in the summer of 1960.
