Virginia Room's Listing for GREEN FAMILY CEMETERY

See my listing for the Parker Family Cemetery

The Green Family Cemetery is adjacent to the Parker Family Cemetery on land that was once part of the Hope Park Plantation. Brian Conley named this cemetery (as was his common practice) the "Green Family Cemetery," simply because the land was once owned by one Albert Green. Green was an emancipated slave who bought this tract of land from a Barnes family heir circa 1870. Although throughout the later half of the 19th century there were many recorded deaths in the Green family, there is no proof that those family members were interred here as opposed to the adjacent-lying Parker Family Cemetery. There is speculation that this is the final resting place of several South Carolina Civil War soldiers.

Spot the difference!
In the photos taken in December 2008, note what appears to be a headstone and footstone in the front area of the property. By May, the markers have disappeared. This parcel is now up for sale. Hmmm...
